2008 Annual Winter Training Seminar

Sponsored by the National Police Bloodhound Association and hosted by the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Emphasis will be placed on the actual fieldwork with day and night training. Hounds will be worked in a primarily wilderness area, however urban areas are available. A questionnaire for each handler is used to determine classes and instructors. National Police Bloodhound Association guidelines will be adhered to exclusively. All handlers that have not attended the association’s Basic Scent Class should arrive by 8:00 a.m. on Sunday to check in. The class begins at 9:00 a.m.

Attendance

This class is for tracking hounds only. No other breed of dog will be permitted on the property. Kennels are not provided, so please bring your own crates or pens. Handlers will be responsible for the upkeep of the dog’s area.

Food

Meals are included from Sunday evening supper through Friday morning breakfast. This is a package deal for the seminar — meals cannot be broken down on a per meal basis. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at the camp.

Lodging

The camp has heated cabins complete with electricity and bunk beds that sleep twelve. Toilets and shower facilities are nearby the bunkhouses. You must provide your own sleeping bags or blankets. Be prepared to share the cabins with others. Hotels are available at additional cost, approximately 12 to 15 miles away. Upon request, the names and phone numbers will be supplied, however, any outside reservations are the attendee's responsibility. The association has secured a rate of $45.99 and a one time fee of $15.00 for the dog in the room, at the Quality Inn, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Call (704) 739-7070. Guests

There are no special activities scheduled or provided for guests. The event is designed for the training of handlers and hounds. No children are permitted at the seminar.
