Spring 2011 Training Seminar in New York

Bloodhound mantrailing in the woods.

Sponsored by the National Police Bloodhound Association and hosted by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Emphasis will be placed on actual field work, with day and night training, as well as classroom instruction for new handlers. A variety of scenarios will be presented, with work being available within the 65,000 acre state park as well as rural and town settings.

Attendance

This seminar is limited to 85 people… National Police Bloodhound Association members and their hounds. All forms that are sent in will be reviewed and, if you do not meet the requirements for membership, your money will be returned. Only bloodhounds will be allowed at camp, and only one dog per handler is eligible to attend. Kennels will not be provided, so bring your own crates or pens. Handlers will be responsible for the upkeep of their dog’s area. Handlers are encouraged to bring and wear their working gear.

A Handler/Hound Information Form for each handler and their hound must be completed prior to the seminar to identify needs and determine instructor and group assignments.

Observer

An“observer” is an individual that is not a National Police Bloodhound Association member. An example of this would be an agency’s K-9 supervisor who attends the seminar to observe his member training. Observers are required to complete all registration forms for this seminar and submit them to the association for approval. Any other individual who is not a National Police Bloodhound Association member and desires to attend the seminar is also required to complete the registration forms and submit them under the observer category for approval by the National Police Bloodhound Association president.

Lodging

Heated cabins to be shared by four to five handlers will be provided in the cost of registration. Cabins have electricity and indoor bath. Additional accommodations are available through the park office. A classroom with audiovisual equipment, mess hall, and meeting rooms provided.

You may check in Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Allegany State Park. A light dinner will be provided for those arriving on April 30.
